The first month of 2021 is almost at an end, so what better way to celebrate it than with National Fun at Work Day on January 29th. This annual event is a great way to increase employee motivation and engagement while also helping everyone beat away the winter blues.
As with everything else, this holiday has been affected by the pandemic. So employers will have to adjust to the new way of thinking about being at work. Even if you don’t have everyone in the office, you can still sprinkle in some joy with co-workers.
Here are a few ideas on how to make this National Fun at Work Day a memorable one, whether you are all in the office or not.
Have a Theme
You could create a fun dress code for the day, such as Crazy Shirt Friday or a movie-themed day with prizes given to the best outfit. Just tell the team to show up to the Zoom call ready to show off their attire.
Movie Time
You might not be able to go to a theater or set up a screen in the office, but there is no reason why you can’t still have a movie day. Give your employees a few selections, and then the most popular option wins.
At an allocated time, your employees can log on and enjoy the experience from the comfort of their own homes. If you want it to be interactive, set up a Slack channel for commenting during the movie.
Trivia Time
Platforms like Kahoot and Kwizzbit enable large groups of people to participate in quizzes using their smartphone as an answer pad. You could introduce ‘fun’ penalties for anyone caught using Google!
Cook-Off
Bring everyone together with food! You can get a few team members to introduce their favorite dishes and how to cook them. You could even synchronize groups so that you sit down to eat lunch together and talk each other through their lunch recipes and routines.
While we might not be able to share the food together, we can get a load of incredible recipes to enjoy.
Tik Tok Challenge
Maybe you can’t have a dance party in the office, but you can find other ways to cut a rug. You can pick a song, then everyone can create a Tik Tok video to show off their best moves. The winner gets a prize.
Virtual Happy Hour to Finish the Day
No matter wherever we are, there is nothing quite like a Happy Hour to finish the day. Arrange to meet at the end of the workday with your favorite drink and have a good get-together. Maybe even organize a karaoke room!

Make It Social
Finally, make sure you document the fun by sharing on your social media accounts. Whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn – you can show off your employee’s enthusiasm to the world.
